Summer Celebration wrapped up another year with sunny skies on Sunday and the second annual car show. Saturday's Century Park schedule was impacted due to severe weather "but all of the entertainment went on," said Kathy Zerillo, a Vernon Hills volunteer and co-chair of the Vernon Hills Summer Celebration committee. Overall, she said she was pleased with the turnout and support for the village-sponsored event. Sunday's family-oriented schedule included a bean bags "corn hole" tournament with an estimated 90 people participating on 45 teams.
The car show brought auto owners out to sit in folding chairs under bright umbrellas or to picnic with friends and family as they answered questions from patrons about their gleaming vehicles. Carmie and Bob Forman of Northbrook displayed their red Cadillac, which they've owned for about three years.
The Monday schedule is highlighted by a pancake feast, 5K, the annual parade, the cardboard regatta, more live music and more fun. The fest ends with a stunning fireworks extravaganza.
