Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her friends, Katniss becomes the "Mockingjay", the symbol of rebellion for the districts of Panem. Katniss Everdeen becomes the symbol of the rebellion after she shoots a force field into the arena of the Quater Quell.

She now lives with the rebels in District 13 after President Snow destroyed the other districts except for District 2. She agrees to become the Mockingjay but her main focus is to save Peeta after he was captured by the Capitol in the Quater Quell and is being "hijacked". After the bombing of District 12, Katniss Everdeen finally accepts the request of President Alma Coin and her adviser Plutarch Heavensbee and becomes the symbol of the rebellion, the Mockingjay.

Unfortunately, Peeta wasn't saved and was taken hostage by the Capitol and Katniss' home District 12 was bombed by Snow in revenge. Coin is only really interested in Katniss as a propaganda tool and tasks her with making videos for the rebellion to inspire the uprising.

After seeing Peeta used by Snow for a propaganda interview on TV, she agrees on the condition Coin finds and rescues him. While Katniss doesn't trust Coin, she and Boggs eventually form a bond. Later in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 , Katniss shoots down aircraft attacking a District hospital while filming a propaganda video, and her furious response to Snow is captured on-camera.

As Coin speaks, Katniss dejectedly visits Peeta, who's being held by restraints in a room. Obviously, there's a lot of ground Part 2 will cover. The next big thing that happens in the book after Peeta's attack is the rebels' attack on District 2, which precedes the next, huge and final battle within the Capitol, where the casualties of the book take place.

The bad news is that we have all those major deaths in Mockingjay — Part 2 — but we do know the ending will be what we want. Where It Leaves Off The movie stretches out Katniss's time in District 13 and her struggle over whether she wants to be the face of the revolution against the Capitol.

What's Still to Come? She delivers a fiery message to Snow, all of it captured by her fearless camera crew. Back in 13, Katniss and Finnick watch another interview with Peeta, but this time she can see that he has been tortured and is hurt. Katniss eventually gets Gale to confess, but she feels betrayed. Gale and Katniss, growing farther and farther apart, return to District 12 to film more propos. Katniss remembers how she used to be happy there and wonders what her life might have been like had she run away with Gale.

During another live Capitol programming, in which Snow and a very battered and fragile-looking Peeta appear together, Beetee is able to break through the Capitol feed to broadcast clips of the rebel propos. While Command rejoices, Katniss knows that their success means more pain and suffering for Peeta.

The feed cuts out just as Peeta is hit to the floor, his blood splattering the tile. Previous Mockingjay at a Glance. Next Book Summary - The Assault.
