I've been having a lot of trouble managing my happiness when I start going to war with people. I am a noob btw. Showing 1 - 15 of 27 comments. I'm by no means an expert player of civ myself but, for military, I'd say once your borders start meeting up with another civ or 2 is the time to start building an army, if not for conquest then at least enough to defend yourself, though if one of your neighbors is a warmonger like montezuma or shaka then you'll want to have an army earlier than that.

As for happines the best way to beat it is with unique luxuries, settle your 2nd, 3rd, and so on cities near as many luxury resources that you don't already have. Right away. Barabrians are the first source of money and culture with the appropriate policies, and your scouts won't handle them.

I always play with that mod that turns off the limited experience against barabrians. The only way to build heroes The sooner you start with a few warriors, and archers, the stronger they'd get. About hapiness, it depends on your difficulty level, a lot. And policies, and a good use of luxuries, on the map or through trading. I'm not a "growing" fanatic myself Last edited by ForevaNoob Wonemorturn ; 13 Jul, pm.

You can pick from both tradition and honour: Tradition gives you 1 free upkeep per city, Honour adds happiness and culture for each garrison. Each city has to carry its own weight where it comes to happiness.

That said, there are a few situations where they can be helpful. The first situation is if the player simply has extra units or resources.

Forming corps and eventually armies allows the player to make stronger, singular units rather than multiple weaker ones, but if the player has enough resources to churn out corps then odds are they are already close to winning anyway. The other time this can be useful is when attempting to take a city in Civilization 6 , as there are a limited number of spaces for units to attack from. Forming a corps will let the player get more units in to attack, as a corps takes up the same amount of space on the map as a single unit.

Finally, although this is a minor benefit, for the most part, units which require fuel are twice as efficient in corps. For example, a tank costs 1 oil per turn to maintain , but a corp of tanks will still only require one oil rather than two.

I had an archer and a warrior but they had 3 archers and like 7 spearmen, I don't see how I can keep up against that. There's a policy that boosts your city defense strength -- I think it's called "Oligarchy". The early era aggression is [allegedly] different between them.

Also some civs are more warlike than others -- why should the build any wonders or workers when they can just steal yours? Originally posted by zxcvbob :.

Build an archer and 2 siege engines, and start a 3rd siege engine for a spare By then you should have met your closest neighbors. Go kill them and take their stuff. I'm just graduating to King. Talamare View Profile View Posts.

Note, you do not need an Army that can beat theirs. BUT you do need an army that will deter their aggression. They dont care if they are friends or whatever if you are WEAK. You do not need to be 1 in the military list, but check your demographics and make sure you are at least not last.

Finally if you want to have a weak military, then make allies with trustworthy people people like Rome and Russia will betray you in the first sign of weakness and send the more aggressive leaders against each other, pay them to declare war on each other. While they are fighting they won't come after you. Jushujums View Profile View Posts. The AI will only attack you that early if they think you're easy pickings. If you're getting attacked before turn on King, it's because your army isn't powerful enough.

Get those units built. Then worry about catching up to the AI in city development. You'll always start as the underdog in difficulties higher than Prince.

Edit: I'm basically just repeating what Talamare said above me. But he knows what he's talking about. Last edited by Jushujums ; 5 Mar, pm. Wigglebean View Profile View Posts.
