Ferry service is available in conjunction with major events. Check independent festival, concert and event websites to determine if ferry service will be provided.

Free parking is available only in designated parking lots. Tickets will be issued for parking outside designated parking lots. For major events such as concerts and festivals, a fee will be charged for parking on the Island. Please review our Permits page for more details. Lost and found is located at Icahn Stadium. Note : items that have not been claimed within three months of being found will be donated to a local charity.

During the fall, spring and summer seasons the restroom hours are: 7 am — 9 pm. For additional information on the park, please visit the Randall's Island Park Alliance website. RIPA works to coordinate local stewardship of the refurbished Park through volunteer efforts, and hosts free summer and year-round sports and environmental programs to make the most of the new facilities, restored natural areas, waterfront pathways and green, open fields. The islands were first designated for recreational use by Robert Moses, and the park was opened in by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, along with the new Triborough Bridge.

In subsequent years, the Little Hell Gate Channel and its adjacent wetlands were filled by debris from construction projects in Manhattan, joining the acreage into a single island. Generations of New Yorkers enjoyed the park, but by the s it had fallen into serious disrepair. The elevation is 3, to 3, feet above mean sea level; the canyons range from 50 to 1, feet in depth.

Annual rainfall averages The soil is Amarillo silty clay loam, easily cultivated and suitable for diversified farming. Native short grass and scant growths of cedar and cottonwood made the area a buffalo and antelope range before colonization.
